Company Picnic Game Ideas Part 2
In the first article in this series, we discussed the importance of planning games well for corporate events. Of course, not everything could be covered in one article: here then are some more important things to keep in mind when planning for your company picnic games or other corporate event.
Safety
Safety measures all depend on the demographics of the attendees to your event. How large of a group will you be planning for? Will there be young children in attendance? If the makeup of your group seems unsuitable for games such as touch football, leave them off of the itinerary. A large group can quickly become unmanageable, especially when children are involved – and this can lead to injuries which could have been avoided.
You’ll want to make sure that there are grassy areas available for races and similar games. These are safer in case of a fall and have a more pleasant aspect to them than a dry, dusty surface.
Check for potholes and the like on any surface you plan to set up games on. These can be hard to see from a distance, so check carefully before marking an area off for a game. A pothole can cause falls and serious injuries to the ankle or leg. Especially if children will be present, check for holes of any size. Also check for broken glass sharp objects etc.
First aid
Minor injuries such as cuts and bruises are a fact of life and should be planned for. Have certified persons on hand to perform first aid if needed. This will of course protect your company from a legal standpoint and protect the health of attendees.
Having first aid personnel on hand will also make people a little more confident while playing the games you have planned for them. Remember, you want people trained and preferably certified in first aid present, along with a fully stocked first aid kit. Taking a laissez faire attitude towards safety is asking for trouble.
Insurance
Make sure you are covered by insurance.
Prizes
You didn't forget about prizes for the winners, did you? While prizes needn't be expensive or elaborate, they should be present. Food items are always a good choice as prizes for games at these events. A word on presenting prizes: the bigger of a production you make of the presentation, the less important it is what the prize happens to be. It will be appreciated no matter what the prize actually is. You could even give away the used golf balls you used in the egg and spoon race as booby prizes.
If your company has the budget for more expensive prizes, by all means go for it!
There are lots of mid cost options for these prizes too – for instance, picnic related items like picnic backpacks or picnic baskets which can be engraved with the company logo, slogan, etc.
Remember – if you are in charge of planning games for your company’s next picnic or annual retreat that you have an important task, no less so than any other member of the planning committee. Your work in planning and running the games can make the event a success and something fondly remembered by all of the participants.
